User Role Editor version 4.6

User Role Editor version 4.6 is available for download in both (free and Pro) versions. The changes are:
– Content editing restriction: It is possible to differentiate permissions for posts/pages creation and editing. Use the “Activate “Create Post/Page” capability” option for that.
Turning on this option you automatically add “create_posts” and “create_pages” capabilities to the list of WordPress core user capabilities. After that user with “edit_posts” capability (even administrator) will can not create new post or page until you apparently include this capability to his user role. “edit_posts” will permit just to edit posts. Go to “User Role Editor” and turn on “create_posts”, “create_pages” capability” for “Administrator” role and other roles of your choice after this option activation.

– Content editing restriction: Restrict user to edit just selected posts and pages. Use the “Activate user access management to editing selected posts and pages” option for that.
This way you may have for example the user with limited “Editor” role, who may edit just 2-3 posts or pages, but has no access to all the rest. After this option activation go to the user profile and input allowed posts/pages ID to the correspondent text input field. That’s it. (more info…)
-Multi-site: Assign roles and capabilities to the users from one point at the Network Admin. Add user with his permissions together to all sites of your network with one click. If this user does not added to some sites yet, he will be added automatically, his permissions will be synchronized with the main blog.
– Multi-site: unfiltered_html capability marked as deprecated one. Read this post for more information. So this capability is not shown at the list of WordPress core capabilities by default.
– Multi-site: ‘manage_network%’ capabilities were included into WordPress core capabilities list.
– On screen help was added to the “User Role Editor Options” page – click “Help” at the top right corner to read it.
– ‘wp-content/uploads’ folder is used now instead of plugin’s own one to process file with importing roles data.
– Bug fix: Nonexistent method was called to notify user about folder write permission error during roles import.
– Bug fix: turning off capability at the Administrator role fully removed that capability from capabilities list.
– Various internal code enhancements.

I need to add a user with ‘administrator’-role to all the subsites (about 30) of my network installation. I have the Pro version of your plugin, so I should be able to do it. The trouble is that I didn’t find ANY documentation as to how to do it. Only the text in the changelog:

“Add user with his permissions together to all sites of your network with one click.”

So please help me, what is the precise process to do it?

    • Hi Waltteri,

Go to the “Network Admin”=>Users. Select needed user, click the “Capabilities” link under his line.
Click “Update Network” button. This user will be added to all sites of your network. User role assigned to the user should exist at all sites befor this operation. But the “Administrator” role should be there.

Thx for the quick reply. Unfortunately that only added the user to the “main site”, the one which has ID = 1. It did not add the user to any other subsite.

        • Are there any error messages from the URE plugin?

No, nothing, even with WP_DEBUG turned on.

          • Interesting. I re-checked at the test WP multisite installation and got the valid result.
Is it possible to get the copy of your database for the investigation what is the difference? We may continue by email then. Use support [at-char] this domain.
